monorail track maintenance
Proper maintenance of overhead rail systems is essential in slaughtering and cutting plants to ensure smooth meat transport, minimize wear, and uphold the highest hygiene standards.
The maintenance process begins with thorough pre-cleaning. During this phase, coarse contaminants—such as meat scraps, blood, and tissue fragments—are removed from the rails. Specialized cleaning agents and hot water are frequently used to completely dissolve stubborn organic residues and layers of old fat. Inadequate pre-cleaning would render subsequent maintenance steps ineffective or result in dirt particles becoming trapped and preserved. A scraper is used to remove mechanical encrustations or residues that cannot be easily dislodged by wet cleaning alone. This tool allows for the manual or mechanical removal of stubborn dirt or traces of rust from the rail's running and sliding surfaces, ensuring a perfectly smooth surface before the actual preservation process begins.
Once the rail is clean and dry, overhead rail grease is applied. This specialized lubricant must comply with strict food safety regulations, as occasional, technically unavoidable contact with the meat products cannot be entirely ruled out. The grease protects the metal rails against corrosion caused by the high humidity in cold storage areas and ensures that the hooks glide smoothly.
To distribute the grease evenly and efficiently across rail systems—which often span many meters and are mounted high up—a rail greasing unit is employed. This device—often a specially designed trolley or attachment guided along the rails—dispenses the lubricant with precision. This prevents excess grease from dripping from the ceiling onto the meat products being transported below, while simultaneously ensuring the application of a continuous protective layer.
